Pet doors

Contact Tamara Glass Ltd in Leamington Spa if you need more information about pet door options.

Convenient pet doors

We love our pets, but it can be inconvenient to meet their needs. Pet doors allow your pet to enter and exit your home at will, without the need for you to keep opening the door.

Microchip pet door (SureFlap)

A concern many pet owners have regarding pet doors is security, as they can make it easier for burglars to break in if not carefully considered. The SureFlap range of pet doors have a microchip installed, that responds to the unique microchip that the vet implanted in your pet (or a special tag on its collar) and will only open when your pet approaches. This ensures that the pet door remains locked for human, and other animal visitors, including other peoples’ pets and wildlife.

The PetSafe range provides freedom for your pet to come and go as they please, and if you are not concerned about other pets or wildlife entering your home, then a manual cat flap is a cost-effective solution.

All cat flaps and pet doors are easily lockable to ensure the security of your home whilst you are away, or you want to keep your pet indoors.

Things to consider

When we change your glass to one with a hole in it, you may want to keep the old unit so that you don’t have to buy another one without a hole in it if you move out. Customers can buy their own cat flaps and we will make the glass to suit whatever hole size is needed (you will need to make sure that the cat flap is suitable for glass as some are for walls only).

Although the glass is the main consideration, it is worth noting the following points when choosing a pet door:

THE SIZE OF YOUR PET

Dogs will naturally stoop and lift their paws to fit through a door, so you only need to measure up to their shoulder.

THE TYPE OF PET

Although cats will naturally squeeze through small spaces, it’s worth remembering that dogs are not as agile, and are likely to need a larger door.

ENTRANCE OPTIONS

Pet doors don’t have to be installed in doors, they can be installed in walls, sliding glass doors, or they can even be added to windows.

SECURITY

Although all pet doors are easily lockable, you can add a microchip function to only open the door when your pet approaches.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Ensure you fit weather strips to reduce heat loss through the pet door.
